Launched by the European Commission in 2002, in partnership with Europa Nostra – Europe’s largest heritage network – the European Heritage Awards / Europa Nostra Awards highlight each year outstanding European personalities, initiatives and projects in the field of cultural heritage.
In 2024, 26 winners have been awarded the prestigious award, including NewsEye, A Digital Investigator for Historical Newspapers, which has significantly improved access to and analysis of European historical newspapers from 1850 to 1950 through the use of artificial intelligence.
This project brought together the Laboratoire informatique image et interaction (L3i) at La Rochelle University, the project coordinator, the national libraries of Austria, Finland and France, and the universities of Helsinki, Innsbruck, Paul Valéry Montpellier 3, Rostock and Vienna.
