The National Library of Moldova hosts EUNIC Round Table

On 28 March 2025, the National Library of the Republic of Moldova had the honour of hosting a round table meeting with the board members of EUNIC Global, the European Network of Cultural Institutes. The event was graced by the presence of Elena Pintilei, the General Director of the National Library of the Republic of Moldova, alongside her colleagues from the EUNIC Moldova cluster.

The EUNIC Global delegation, which was in Chisinau for a working visit, included:

  • Liviu Jicman, President of the Romanian Cultural Institute
  • Kirsten van den Hul, Vice President, Director of DutchCulture
  • Johannes Ebert, Secretary General of the Goethe-Institut
  • Carmen Noguero Galilea, Secretary General of Instituto Cervantes
  • Hanna Lämsä, Executive Director of the Finnish Cultural and Academic Institutes
  • Mary Ann Cauchi, Chief Operations Officer of Funding and Strategy at Arts Council Malta
  • Andrew Manning, Director of EUNIC – EU National Institutes for Culture, Brussels
  • Narcis Afrasinei, President of the EUNIC Moldova cluster.

One of the key objectives of this meeting was to explore and strengthen the growing dynamics of partnerships both within and with the Republic of Moldova.

The round table provided a valuable opportunity to discuss the mission and activities of the EUNIC network, while exchanging ideas on the perspectives and potential for enhancing people-to-people cultural relations, both domestically and internationally.

Over the years, the National Library of Moldova has cultivated a strong relationship with EUNIC, facilitating the organisation of local events that contribute to the cultural dialogue between Moldova and the EU. The round table on 28 March 2025, marked a significant milestone in the ongoing partnership with the EUNIC Moldova cluster, underscoring the importance of collaboration in the field of cultural diplomacy.

The National Library of Moldova, as a key cultural institution, continues to play a vital role in these partnerships. It serves not only as a hub for the promotion of knowledge and cultural exchange but also as a dynamic partner in fostering international collaborations. The success of this event highlights the Library’s commitment to strengthening ties with global cultural institutions and building a foundation for future cooperative initiatives.

EUNIC, as an independent association of the EU’s National Institutes for Culture, plays a pivotal role in the global practice of international cultural relations. Through its network of cultural centres, embassies, and local clusters, it fosters a greater understanding and exchange between Europe and the world. This round table meeting is a step forward in the continued development of cultural partnerships and exchange, with the National Library of Moldova playing an essential role in this evolving dialogue.
