The Finnish Centre for Open Systems and Solutions COSS has granted its Open World Hero 2023 award to the National Library of Finland. The award was presented on 3 October 2023 at the international Mindtrek technology conference held annually in Tampere. Professor Kimmo Tuominen, the National Librarian, accepted the award on behalf of the National Library.

The grounds for the award emphasise the long-term efforts of the National Library in the promotion of open source as a user and active developer of, and as a participant in communities dealing with, the open source code.
