The National Digital Library Access Stations in Türkiye

These stations provide an unique opportunity for citizens who couldn’t visit the National Library in Ankara (capital city) to explore its treasures, creating a “digital twin” of the library and fostering equal access to knowledge for all.

This visionary project aims to digitise the National Library’s rich resources, including books, periodicals, newspapers, manuscripts, audiovisual materials and non-book materials, ensuring that millions of items are preserved and made readily accessible. Since 2015, over 25 million images have been digitised, with ongoing efforts to expand this number. The project streamlines access to these resources by implementing a user-friendly, copyright-compliant digital platform that significantly reduces the time and complexity traditionally required for research.

Researchers can easily register through Türkiye’s e-Government portal to become members of the National Library. Once registered, they gain access to an expansive collection of digital resources via the access stations in select public libraries. This initiative transforms public libraries into dynamic research spaces, offering citizens the opportunity to engage with invaluable knowledge and cultural heritage.

The number and diversity of resources available at these digital access points continue to grow, as do the locations offering this innovative service. With the National Digital Library Access Stations, the National Library of Türkiye is redefining how knowledge is shared, bridging physical distances, and enriching communities nationwide.
