As the work of André Breton (1896-1966) is still protected by copyright, the free online dissemination of such content is extremely rare. In partnership with the Association Atelier André Breton, and thanks to the exceptional generosity of Aube Elléouët-Breton, the poet’s daughter, the BnF will be making available on Gallica all the André Breton manuscripts in its collections from 20 February onwards.
The year 2024 coincides with the centenary of the publication of the Manifesto of Surrealism by André Breton, one of the most influential texts of the 20th century, marking the birth of Surrealism, a prolific literary and artistic movement that revolutionised modes of representation in poetry, painting, sculpture and film.
