On November 5, 2024, on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the death of Milan Mladenović, a singer, guitarist, songwriter and composer, best known for his work in the bands Ekatarina Velika and Šarlo Akrobata, the Milan Mladenović Legacy was officially opened at the National Library of Serbia. With a permanent exhibition dedicated to Milan Mladenović as a poet, the oldest cultural institution in Serbia further highlights the artistic value of his work and rock and roll poetry as a cultural phenomenon.
The exhibition consists of manuscripts, songs, photographs and other personal belongings from the legacy of the rock musician with a unique poetic expression, and it is the fruit of many years of cooperation between the National Library of Serbia and the Milan Mladenović Foundation.
“The initiative to establish the Milan Mladenović Legacy at the National Library of Serbia came about quite spontaneously and without great pretensions. It was agreed that the National Library of Serbia would provide expert assistance in organizing the legacy of Milan Mladenović. This then grew into a more serious initiative to hand over these materials to the care and safekeeping of the National Library of Serbia and, therefore, to exhibit them to the public. The National Library of Serbia recognized the work of the great artist as one that could rightfully find its place in it. Although it is a work that represents a combination of different artistic languages, it is precisely the literary language that plays a significant role in it, and the most precious part of the aforementioned legacy is made up of manuscripts of texts, i.e. notebooks and individual sheets, which form an integral part of Milan Mladenović’s syncretic art, which, with its uncompromising search for truth, represents a counterbalance to almost the entire world of today.” (Vladimir Pištalo, director).
