Every year, on April 23rd, the world celebrates literature and distinguished international authors, such as Miguel de Cervantes, William Shakespeare, and Inca Garcilaso de la Vega. The idea behind World Book and Copyright Day comes from the Catalan tradition of gifting a book and a rose. At the World Book Day event, excerpts were read from the novel, Don Quixote, and an exhibition in tribute to the Spanish poet Justo Jorge Padrón titled, Remembering Justo Jorge Padrón, was opened and facilitated by his wife, Kleopatra Filipova.
The National and University Library St. Clement of Ohrid-Skopje has been a part of this celebration since the beginning and coordinates activities to promote world literature throughout the country.
The Macedonian message for the event was delivered by Prof. Dr. Ana Stojanoska, and the international message was read on behalf of Mrs. Audrey Azoulay, Director General of UNESCO.
This day brought us all together in celebration of world literature!
