On October 15, 2024, during the Italian Language Week in the World (Settimana della Lingua Italiana nel Mondo), the National Library of the Republic of Moldova in collaboration with the Italian Embassy in Moldova organized a cultural event for public interested Italian history, culture and language.
The event started with greeting messages from Mrs. Elena Pintilei, general director of the National Library of the Republic of Moldova, H. E., Lorenzo Tomassoni, Ambassador of the Italian Republic in Chisinau, and Mr. Guido Beltrani, director of the Swiss Cooperation Office in the Republic of Moldova.
The event consisted on several activities, starting with the inauguration of the exhibition “The giants of Italian Renaissance literature – Francesco Petrarca, Ludovico Ariosto, Torquato Tasso”, and presentations dedicated to the great Renaissance personalities made by students from high school and university, guided by Mrs. Lorella Francarli, university lecturer of Italian language (State Pedagogy University “Ion Creanga”), cultural attaché of the Italian Embassy in the Republic of Moldova.
After that the ceremony of handing over a book donation from the Italian Republic to the National Library of Moldova took place: 525 books were donated by the Italian Embassy in Chisinau and 1,155 books came from Mrs. Roberta Alberotanza, Ex-President of CoE Culture Committee.
A big hit of the exhibition was the facsimile edition of a manuscript from the Renaissance period, entitled “Codice Valois”, dated 1526, donated by Biblioteca Casanatense from Rome, Italy.
During the event there was presented as well the exhibition of banners dedicated to the great Italian Renaissance painter Pietro Perugino (1450-1523), consisting of 15 large-format, artistic and informative banners, and the painting exhibition of contemporary local artist Mari Iurskaya, entitled “In the energy of the Italian language and in the rhythm of my inspiration”, all with musical accompaniment by the Chisinau Select Quartet.
Italian Language Week in the World is a cultural event organized every year in the third week of October, with the objective of promoting the study of the Italian language. The 24th edition of the Week of the Italian Language in the World, with the title “L’Italiano e il libro: il mondo fra la righe”, took place on October 14-21, 2024 under the high patronage of the President of the Italian Republic. The theme of this year’s edition is has the aim of exploring the link between the language and literature in the contemporary world, while valuing the role of the book as a vehicle of Italian cultural heritage.
