On August 22-26, 2022, the National Library of the Republic of Moldova organized a series of activities to mark 190 years anniversary of its foundation and three decades of being awarded the status of a National Library. Among the events there was delivered the fourth edition of the International Conference “The reading as a basis for culture, knowledge and development” (Aug. 22-23, 2022), organized within the LecturaCentral National Program.
As a platform for strengthening the efforts to stimulate interest in reading, the International Conference concentrated bodies and people with decision-making responsibilities in this field. The participant profile is a complex one: writers, ambassadors, political and business people, librarians, pedagogues, journalists, scientific researchers, in total 31 speakers from six countries: Ukraine, France, Japan, USA, Romania and the Republic of Moldova.
The previous editions are a proof that the International Conference is a solid platform for the promotion of reading, exchange of experience and quality practices. The covered topics are varied: the relevant projects and programs carried out by the National Library of the Republic of Moldova, including those promoting reading; the national campaigns to promote the culture of reading; projects and programs designed with innovative and creative practices to encourage reading.
The Conference took place in a hybrid format, in five sessions – online, but also in the physical space of the Library with the participation of 88 people.
At the same time, the sessions organized within the library space were transmitted live thanks to the equipment purchased by the National Library of the Republic of Moldova within the project, supported by CENL (“Improving the digital technological equipment for the needs of the community, in conditions of COVID-19”).
The communications that meaningfully reflect the novelty of the experiences, the impactful activities for the purpose of promoting reading and developing the culture of reading, are to be included in volume IV of the book “The Reading and the Stairs” – a collection of articles that is edited annually.
