The Vernadsky National library of Ukraine is the largest library of the state. It houses 15,833,167 items, and offers an international inter-library loan, grants access to an online union catalogue and bibliographic databases. The library’s priceless collection of old and rare manuscripts includes the “Assyrian-Babylonian book list” from the 3rd century B.C. The Library also owns one of two existing copies of the “History of Animals” by Aristotle published in Venice in 1476.
On 27 January 2025 the National Library of the Czech Republic officially handed over the special mobile conservation workstation “Archa I” to the Yaroslav Mudryi National Library in Kyiv. This specialised workplace will help preserve and restore Ukrainian written heritage affected by war. The project, supported by the Czech Ministry of Culture, is a significant step in cultural cooperation and heritage protection.
