2023 marks a special occasion for the Austrian National Library: construction for its baroque jewel, the State Hall, was started 300 years ago. In the same year, its famous baroque architect, Johann Bernhard Fischer von Erlach departed. Both anniversaries are the reason for a special exhibition, showing original manuscripts, monumental engravings, plans and sketches from the time of construction are used to present the concept of the State Hall as a book room and as a hall of fame for the Habsburgs: „Fischer von Erlach and the Emperor’s State Hall. 300 years of baroque splendour“ (from Jan 12 – March 5, 2023).
