The DNB’s redesigned service area goes into operation on 24 February 2025. Users will now be able to access the library’s collections through a digital media box system, providing flexible access to media.
While renovating the humanities reading room, the DNB also redesigned the media issue area. Here the German National Library is breaking new ground: A modern digital media box system allows users to access books, journals and other holdings even outside normal library service hours.
Thanks to the media boxes, lending, storage for reuse and returns of the media have all been automated while maintaining collection preservation guidelines
