and exhibition projects, through which participants have the opportunity to learn not only about the country’s heritage, but also about the evolution of writing and printing from ancient times to the present.

On 2025 the Book Museum made a suite of continued events, which was launched as part of International Handwriting Day, celebrated annually on January 23. The children from the “Pixel Media Center” television school, under ARTICO, a public educational and methodological institution of extracurricular education at the national level, took part in a cognitive excursion and an interactive writing workshop using the oldest writing instruments.

The children learned that:

  • the smallest book in the country is only 8 mm;
  • the heaviest book in the country weighs 5 kg and took 3 years to print;
  • the oldest printed book held by the National Library of the Republic of Moldova is 475 years old;
  • the oldest writing instrument in history was the stylus;
  • the earliest writing supports were made of clay;
  • the cuneiform alphabet did not contain vowels;
  • the longest-lived writing instrument was the goose quill;
  • etc.

The children also had the opportunity to write with a real goose quill, which greatly impressed them.

Activities of this kind are organized during the whole year, free of charge for all categories, with prior registration required.

Considering that education and heritage are two crucial elements in the spiritual life of a people, through its interactive activities, the Book Museum contributes to the modernization and democratization of access to education and culture.
