On the last day of October, the guest of the National Library of Serbia was Professor Ewan Fernie, Chair of Shakespeare Studies and Fellow at the Shakespeare Institute, Stratford-upon-Avon, University of Birmingham. He held a lecture entitled “Shakespeare as the Laureate of Conversation” in the crowded Atrium of the National Library of Serbia. The audience followed the lecture attentively and with appreciation. After the lecture, Professor Fernie had a conversation with the academic host Zorica Bečanović Nikolić, PhD, Professor of Belgrade University, in which the audience actively participated. The whole programme, realized in partnership with the English-Speaking Union from Belgrade, was in English, with a Serbian translation provided by Nataša Šofranac, PhD, Professor of Belgrade University.

As part of the series of lectures Shakespeare our Collocutor, which started in 2019, this was a continuation of the conversation with Shakespeare and about Shakespeare at the National Library of Serbia. The co-creator of the idea, as well as the organizer and moderator of the programme, was Ana Milutinović, senior associate for the international cooperation of the National Library of Serbia.
