NLS was founded in 1832 it is reputed to be the oldest cultural institution in Serbia.
Today it operates in many ways:
• As a special depository of books
• As a parent library for all public libraries in Serbia
• As a modern cultural institution offering varied artistic and cultural programs.
NLS has been trying to promote the cooperation with various both domestic and international
actors, in the fields of library science, digitalization and literature.
On the last day of October, the guest of the National Library of Serbia was Professor Ewan Fernie, Chair of Shakespeare Studies and Fellow at the Shakespeare Institute, Stratford-upon-Avon, University of Birmingham. He held a lecture entitled “Shakespeare as the Laureate of Conversation” in the crowded Atrium of the National Library of Serbia.
