The National Library of Greece@SNFCC was designed by Renzo Piano. The National Library of Greece@Vallianio was designed by the Danish architect Theophil Freiherr von Hansen, as part of his famous Trilogy of neo-classical buildings including the Academy of Athens and the original building of the Athens University; the construction was supervised by Ernst Ziller.

The National Library of Greece (NLG) began its journey through time in 1829 and has been the driving force behind the efforts to trace, organise, describe and preserve in perpetuity documents of Greek culture, as the custodian of the Greek literary heritage.
The National Library of Greece is a legal entity of public law established under the Ministry of Education, Research and Religious Affairs and is currently housed in three locations; the historic Vallianio, the Votanikos building and its new facilities at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center.
