CENL Event

28th January 2025

Call for presentations: CENL Books and Audiences Network Group (BANG!) – in person seminar ‘New Directions in Library Exhibitions’

Dates: 8–9 May, 2025

Venue: National Library of Latvia, Riga, Latvia

ABOUT THE EVENT

The CENL Books and Audiences Network Group continues its mission to address the challenges of book exhibitions by exploring innovative and engaging methods. On May 8–9, 2025, curators, designers, collection experts and other library professionals whose daily work is related to library exhibitions are invited  to meet at the National Library of Latvia (Riga)  for the seminar ‘New Directions in Library Exhibitions’.

Library exhibitions are not a new idea. Both small and large libraries create exhibitions to share their collections with wider audiences. However, it is important to reflect on current practices, especially as conversations continue about the changing roles of libraries and their relevance  today. How do book exhibitions fit into broader institutional strategies? What creative tools can help convey messages effectively? What are the latest trends and challenges in library exhibition production?

Over the two days, participants will join panel discussions, hands-on workshops, and inspiring expert talks. They will hear case studies from partner institutions, visit exciting exhibitions, and chances to network and explore ideas for collaboration. It’s all about raising awareness about the unique qualities of library exhibitions.

The event is also a recap of BANG!’s work, looking back at its results and discussing the needs of partner institutions to stay relevant in the field. It will also be a chance for participants to share ideas, collaborate, and explore new ways to improve library exhibitions.
