Dr. Kornélia Vasné Tóth, a research associate at the Hungarian National Library was awarded with an outstanding international award

Dr. Kornélia Vasné Tóth, research associate at the Hungarian National Library, returned from Germany with an outstanding international award.

As a member of the German ex libris society, she participated in this year’s annual international meeting of the Deutsche Ex libris Gesellschaft (German Ex libris Society) which took place from 25–28 April 2024. It was here that the Walter von Zur Westen Medal, named after the former President of the German Ex libris Society, was awarded annually by the German Ex libris Society for outstanding work in the international promotion of the ex libris idea to a person who has shown outstanding achievement in the field of ex libris research and literature presentation over a long period of time.

Hungary has not yet been among the recipients; therefore it is a great honour that our colleague has been awarded this prestigious prize this year. In the explanatory statement, her ex libris activities as a scientific researcher and ex libris specialist at the National Széchényi Library was emphasised, as well as her national and international research, her books and articles on the subject, her doctoral thesis and her work as editor of the journal Kisgrafika for 12 years.

Dr. Kornélia Vasné Tóth graduated from the Faculty of Humanities of Eötvös Loránd University, Faculty of History and Humanities, Hungarian History Department, followed by a PhD in History of Culture at the ELTE Doctoral School of History. Since 2008, she has been working as a research associate at the Map, Poster and Small Print Library of the National Széchényi Library, where she has been working on ex libris. Her research results have been presented in numerous articles, studies and catalogues. She is working on the ex libris holdings of the national library with a scientific interest, on the basis of which the online content service “Book Ticket Library” was launched in 2023.
