GALEX 2024: The National Librarianship Awards Gala, Moldova

The GALEX National Awards Gala was held in Chisinau, Moldova on the occasion of World Book and Copyright Day, and Librarian’s Day, marked on April 23, 2024.

The prizes for activity during previous year (2023) were awarded in the following nominations:

The best politician supporting libraries, H.E. Tadas Valionis, Ambassador of the Republic Lithuania in the Republic of Moldova;
The best library founder, Cristina Țurcanu, Head of the Culture, Tourism, Youth and Sport Department of the Drochia Regional Council;
The best writer promoting books and reading, Nina Corcinschi, literary critic, PhD in philology, university lecturer, director of the Institute of Romanian Philology “Bogdan Petriceicu-Hasdeu” of the Ministry of Education and Research of Moldova, member of the Writers’ Unions of Moldova and of Romania;
The best publisher supporting libraries, Eduard Potinca, founder, director of “Lexon-Plus” Publishing House;
The best promoter and supporter of libraries, books and reading in the mass media, Anatol Fornea, cartoonist, journalist and TV presenter;
The most generous patron of libraries, the Agency for International Development Cooperation (RoAid), Romania;
The best supporter of policies and programs for the valorization of cultural heritage, Maria Sleahtitchi, literary critic, poet, essayist, playwright, PhD in philology, scientific researcher, director of the National Museum of Romanian Literature in Chisinau, Moldova;
The best manager of the year 2023 from the National Library of the Republic of Moldova, Elena Pintilei, General Director of the National Libraryof the Republic of Moldova;
The best librarian of the year 2023 from the National Library of the Republic of Moldova, Natalia Ghimpu, main specialist, Direction of Development of Library and Information Sciences;
The best librarian of the year 2023 from the National Library System, Elena Negoita, director of the “Mihai Eminescu” District Public Library, Falesti;
The best library project: “Improving the institutional capacity of the National Library, including the services offered to the public”, Coordinator of project Veronica Bors, Deputy Director, Direction of Communication and Information Technology, the National Library of the. Republic of Moldova;

The best library – promoter of information technologies:

“Ion Creanga” National Children’s Library, General Director Eugenia Bejan;
“Mihai Eminescu” District Public Library, Rezina, director Galina Davidic.

The GALEX National Awards Gala is one of the most important events in the library world of the Republic of Moldova, with the goal of promoting and stimulating the activity of librarians and other professionals and legal entities, who, through their actions, support the development of the libraries in Moldova.

The event was organized with the support of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Moldova, the National Library of the Republic of Moldova, in collaboration with the Public Association “The League of Librarians from the Republic of Moldova “Alexe Rau”.

The GALEX Awards were conceived in 2010 after founding the Public Association “The League of Librarians from the Republic of Moldova “Alexe Rau”; the first letters of the names of two former distinguished directors of the National Library of the Republic of Moldova – Gavriil Bilevici and Alexe Rau, were used for entitling the Awards.
