The National Library of Finland’s 19th-century scholarly collection of researcher and explorer A.E. Nordenskiöld contains historical maps, geographical literature, travel accounts and book rarities. Part of this collection, an exceptionally complete set of Ptolemy atlases published in the 15th and 16th centuries, has now been digitised and made available online. All works are in the public domain.
The digital collection can be browsed and its content retrieved in search results in the digi.kansalliskirjasto.fi service. The entire resource, including the nearly 1,900 maps in the atlases, have been catalogued, and will be made accessible also in the National Library’s search service this spring.
