Books about pandemic published in Romania in 2020-2023 – a bibliographic research

Organized by the National Library of Romania, the exhibition Books about pandemic published in Romania in 2020-2023, opened to the public on 16 February 2024, presents the results of the bibliographic research undertaken on the production of books published in Romania between 2020 and 2023, on the subject of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The topics of the 467 books on the Covid-19 pandemic, published by 206 publishing houses based in Romania, were analysed from various perspectives, the results revealing a wide variety of concerns and approaches to the problems of those troubled years, which Romanians wanted to express and share with others in the form of books.

The fears, obsessions and hopes of the Romanians, specific to the period, certainly the same as those of all the inhabitants of the planet, have been the subject of works that are diverse both in their approach style and in their perspective of presentation. The books cover a wide variety of style and content, ranging from literature, in the form of novels, short stories, memoirs, journals and even poetry, to scientific books in the fields of medicine, psychology, sociology, culture, politics or mass communication, to guides to survival and personal development.

The research took into account the dynamics recorded in the Romanian editorial landscape from the first months of the pandemic, in 2020, to the end of 2023, the year in which the World Health Organization announced the end of the Covid-19 pandemic, which claimed more than 6.9 million lives and affected the economies of all countries and the lives of everyone on the planet.
