10th Conference of Directors  of the National Libraries from Southeast Europe

The National and University Library St. Clement of Ohrid – Skopje organized the 10th Conference of Directors of the National Libraries from Southeast Europe, entitled Trends in Contemporary Library Work. The event was held from October 4 to 6 in Struga, North Macedonia, located on the shore of Lake Ohrid. An exhibition of posters at the conference presented special collections from the NUL St. Clement of Ohrid, featuring reproductions of culturally significant library materials, literary artifacts, and multimedia artworks with accompanying text descriptions.

Daim Luchi, the Deputy Minister of Culture, and Rahmetula Kuqi, the Director of the NUL St. Clement of Ohrid, delivered welcoming speeches on Trends in Contemporary Library Work at the conference opening. Frank Scholze, the Chairperson of the Conference of European National Libraries (CENL), delivered the inaugural address, followed by presentations by Piro Misha, the Director of the National Library of Albania, Ismet Ovcina, the Director of the National and University Library of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Judit Gerencser, the Deputy Director of the National Library of Hungary, Mehmet Demir, the Deputy Director of the National Library of Turkey and Alesh Boshnjak, the Director of the Institute of Information Sciences in Maribor, Slovenia.

The conference led to the adoption of conclusions for continuous monitoring of trends and implementation of new practices in library work, specifically in digitization and automation. The focus is also on strengthening cooperation among national libraries, initiating joint projects, ensuring open access, and sharing experiences. The national libraries of Southeast Europe will convene in Montenegro for the next (11th) conference.
