Annif is an automated description tool developed at the National Library of Finland to streamline human-made subject indexing work. Annif is already in use in many organisations internationally, but with the now released version Annif 1.0, the software is ready for wider production use.
Annif utilises available machine learning and language technology tools, which can be combined to achieve the best possible result in terms of indexing. It is thus an AI application that focuses on one task: the description and classification of text-based documents. Annif is an open-source code software and available to anyone to use and develop further.
