CENL is pleased to announce Vladimir Pištalo, as the new director of the National Library of Serbia.

Vladimir Pištalo (Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, 1960), acting director of the National Library of Serbia in Belgrade, graduated from the Faculty of Law of Belgrade University and received his PhD from the University of New Hampshire in the USA (thesis about the manifold identity of Serbian immigrants – Serbian, American, Yugoslav). He worked at Becker College in Worcester, Massachusetts, as professor of American History.

Vladimir Pištalo is one of the most eminent contemporary Serbian writers. His most important works: The End of the Century (short stories, 1990), Memory of a Stained Glass Window (short stories, 1994), Stories from all over the World(1997), Alexander the Great (novel, 1998), Millennium in Belgrade (novel, 2000), Tesla: A Portrait with Masks (novel, 2008), Venice (novel, 2011), The Sun of This Day: A Letter to Ivo Andrić (novel, 2017), The Meaning of the Joker (essays, 2019).

Vladimir Pištalo has received numerous prizes and awards for his books,which have been translated into many languages (English, German, French, Russian, Italian).
