The National and University Library of Bosnia and Herzegovina (NUBBH) celebrates eighty years of work this year. In the founding act – Decree of the Assembly of Federal Bosnia and Herzegovina from 1945, this library is “the central land library for Bosnia and Herzegovina, its activity extends to the entire territory of Bosnia and Herzegovina.” The founder – Bosnia and Herzegovina – standardized our tasks in the founding act as follows: “to provide its readers with comprehensive knowledge of the life and culture of our people, especially the people of Bosnia and Herzegovina; to enable individuals and institutions to work in the field of science and art; to help establish libraries and improve librarianship in Bosnia and Herzegovina”.
One of the first celebrations was organized with the promotion of the Digital collections accompanied by an exhibition displaying items in their physical shape that are available on the Portal of digitized collections.
National and University Libraries of Bosnia and Herzegovina will mark this special anniversary throughout 2025, still waiting for the Council of Ministers and the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina to act following the valid Constitution of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Article 6 of the valid Order of the High Representative in B&H no. 02/24 from 21st November 2024, which supports the functioning of the National and University Library and other cultural institutions of importance for Bosnia and Herzegovina.
